December 2: Prayer for Control of Tongue

Here are scriptures to pray over, seek the Holy Spirit Power as you read these passages:

Life and death are in the power of the tongue

  • Proverbs 21:23 Whoever keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps himself out of trouble.

  • Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Break that Chain of Negativity

  • Psalm 141:3 Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!

  • 1 Peter 3:10 For Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit.

  • Proverbs 12:18 There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

  • Matthew 15:11 It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.

Thank God for: Being the One to help me control my mouth.  Thank you Lord for helping me bring life to others with the gifts you have given me with my tongue.

Ask God for: 1. Dedicate your heart, mind, and tongue to the Lord, daily.  2. Pray that God would give you an awareness/consciousness of your words. 3. Surrender up your “right” to complain, and gossip.   4. Ask for forgiveness for any unloving words or attitudes   5. Practice speaking words that will encourage, comfort, edify, and inspire.

Song to Contemplate: Let the words of my mouth, Fernando Ortega
