December 28: Prayer for those who mourn

There’s one thing we can not avoid in this world and that’s death.  We all have experience this reality and some have experienced it closer to home and the pain is very fresh.  Chances are you or someone you know is enduring a season of Grief right now.  Maybe the death of a love one, friend, neighbor or coworker.  I’m sure you can think of people right now who are mourning a lost, let us take a moment to pray for those who mourn.  You can add their names or even yours as we pray.

Ask God: Father in Heaven we want to lift up to those who are mourning the lost of a loved one.  We ask that you will draw close to them and comfort them in the midst of their life-shaking event.  Even when they walk through the valleys of the shadows of death you are with them, we ask that you walk with them, strengthen them and uphold them with your righteous right hand.

We ask that our friends will not be overcome with sadness, as those who have no hope, but to be strengthened by the promises of a blessed hope in Christ Jesus.  Please give our friends the wisdom to make the decisions as they are under grief.  We ask that you protect their hearts and minds from negative talk that might come from their lost.  We ask that you calming presence would take hold of them, even while their emotions are high, that your peace would overflow them right now.

Father we know that you can help our friends bring balance back into their life.  We ask that your healing will start and that they will get the spiritual and emotional support that they need as they process their lost.  May you Spirit speak to them through scripture.  Show them Your love through the words and actions of those who love them. Give them hope that tomorrow will be better and that some day they will see their loved one again.

Thank God:  We thank you being the God of all comfort.  We thank you for you peace that transcends all understanding.  We thank you Jesus for being the resurrection and the life, and the promise that those who believe in will live, even though they die.  We thank you for that great family reunion that we will see our loved ones again and the promise that you will wipe every tear from our eyes. We thank you that there will be no more death’[a] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.  Amen
