December 30: Prayer for those with Mental Illness

Each year millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental illness.  You are not alone, there’s help (Click here for this link for five ways to take care of your mental health in the face of uncertainty.)  Today we’re going to pray for those who struggle mental illness in our community: Depression, anxiety disorder, bipolar, suicidal thoughts and negative self-talk.  Winter is upon us and many struggle with seasonal depression and every year there are people in Walla Walla County who take their own lives.  If you know people who struggle with depression  or you struggle yourself don’t be afraid to reach out, sometimes we are the ones to answer prayers by showing we care.

Ask God:  Father we pray for those who struggle with mental illness, the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; you have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.  Father we claim the promise in Isaiah 54:10, Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.  We ask that you unfailing love will fill those who feel unloved, a burdened to their family, fill them with you covenant of peace.  Father we pray for those who are lonely, my they find relief.  We claim the promise of You presence upon their lives in Psalms 193:1-18, may they feel Your Loving care.  Father we pray for courage for those who walk in darkness of the winter season, we ask that You hear their cries and help them to reach out for help.  Psalm 40:1-3.  Father God we pray for healing of the mind and spirit of those who struggle.

Father we pray for those who are contemplating suicide that they will hear the message of love from someone, that they will see that their life matters, and we pray that they will choose life. and Open our eyes to see those who need help, may you give us the wisdom on how to love them.  We pray for those who work in mental health, the counselors, psychiatrist, and social workers please give them Your strength, wisdom and compassion.

Thank God:  We thank Father for not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind (2 Tim. 1:7). We thank you that we can come to you in prayer when we are anxious and that the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Phil. 4:7).  We thank you for the Blessed Hope, things will get better in Your Time.
