December 31: Prayer for the New Year

What a year 2020 has been and it’s finally over.  I’m sure some of the 2020 trouble will over lap into 2021.  Covid-19 is still a menace to the world, but there is hope.  As believers we can begin each day with Hope and face our new year seeking out His will for our lives.  We can start the New Year renewed and with a renewed energy to live our lives fully alive for Christ.

Prayerfully read the following promises and ask/thank God for blessings in the New Year:

  • Isaiah 40:30-31, “30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17, “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

  • Psalm 98:1, “1 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.”

  • Romans 8:18, “18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

  • Isaiah 43:19, "19 See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

  • Ephesians 4:22-24, “22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

  • Jeremiah 29:11, “11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Thank God:  Thank God for all his blessings this last year.  What are some trials God given you strength or victory over, thank Him for His help.  Thank God for the new things He has plan for your life this coming year.  Thank Him for the hope you find in the scriptures Above.

Ask God:  What are some of you goals for this coming year (health, spiritual, relationship or social, emotional, financial) ask God for strength and guidance in these areas.  We all want to be more like Jesus, what are some things we need to let go in the coming year (addiction, attitudes, bad relationships, negative thinking…fill in the blank.  Ask God how He wants to use you in the coming year, ask Him to lead you in your life of service.
